A motorcyclist in his twenties has died after a crash with a car at the A308 and Fifield Road junction on Saturday. Police want dashcam footage, ref 43260570039.

A motorcyclist in his twenties has died after a crash with a car on the A308 Windsor Road at its junction with Fifield Road, between Maidenhead and Windsor.

The collision happened at around 5.55pm on Saturday 31 October. The rider was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Thames Valley Police said on Sunday that he had died of his injuries.

The force is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

What the police have said

Thames Valley Police published its appeal on its collision appeal portal at 11.14am on Sunday 1 November. It says:

  • a grey Skoda car and a grey Honda 125cc motorcycle collided at the junction of Windsor Road (A308) and Fifield Road
  • the motorcyclist, a man in his twenties, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries
  • he was in a critical condition in hospital

Later on Sunday the force confirmed that the rider had died. Its statement, as carried by the BBC and the Maidenhead Advertiser, says the driver of the Skoda, a man in his seventies, was not injured.

The force has not named the rider, so neither do we. It has not said whether anyone has been arrested.

Detective Sergeant Oliver Cahill-Smith, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, is leading the investigation. He said: “Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help us establish exactly what happened.”

The force wants to hear from anyone who saw the collision, and from anyone who saw either vehicle travelling in the area beforehand.

Where it happened

Fifield Road runs south from the A308 Windsor Road, on the stretch between Holyport and Oakley Green in Bray parish. The junction is about two and a half miles south-east of Maidenhead town centre and about three and a half miles west of Windsor.

It is a give-way junction: traffic from Fifield Road joins the main road, which carries a 40mph limit at that point according to the Department for Transport’s collision records.

What the collision records show here

The Department for Transport publishes every injury collision reported to the police. We checked its file for the last five published years, 2021 to 2025, for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

At this junction, the file records two injury collisions in those five years:

  • 13 December 2023, 5.39pm: a car and a motorcycle of 125cc or under, one person seriously injured
  • 1 October 2021, 4.22pm: two cars and a van, two people slightly injured

Along the whole A308 in the borough, police recorded 156 injury collisions over the same period. One was fatal, in February 2022, 32 were serious and 123 were slight. A motorcycle was involved in 26 of them.

Bar chart of reported injury collisions on the A308 in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by year: 32 in 2021, 41 in 2022, 39 in 2023, 24 in 2024 and 20 in 2025

The yearly totals were 32, 41, 39, 24 and 20, so the count has fallen by half since its 2022 peak.

Two caveats. The file counts only collisions reported to the police in which somebody was hurt, so damage-only crashes are missing. And the latest year is provisional until the department revises it.
