Peascod Place, off Windsor's main shopping street, shuts to walkers from 5 to 9 October. Riverside has no Waterloo trains on 3 and 4 or 10 and 11 October.
Peascod Place in Windsor closes to pedestrians from 8am on Monday 5 October until 6pm on Friday 9 October. The council has made the order. The closure covers the first 20 metres south of Peascod Street, the town’s main shopping street, while Cadent lays a new gas connection.
Windsor & Eton Riverside has no London trains this weekend or next. The lines in the Staines area are closed all day on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, and again on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October. Waterloo trains stop at Hounslow, and buses run from Hounslow to Windsor via Staines.
Windsor & Eton Central is running normally on both weekends, and so is the M4 near the town. National Highways lists no closure between junctions 5 and 9 from Saturday 3 to Thursday 8 October.

Five of these six are backed by temporary traffic orders the council has made, which are decisions. Badger Close comes from the council’s own weekly works list for Maidenhead.

Peascod Place: a pedestrian closure off the shopping street
Peascod Place runs south off Peascod Street. The order stops anyone walking along it for 20 metres from the Peascod Street junction. It runs from 08:00 on Monday 5 October to 18:00 on Friday 9 October.
The signed walking route goes Sun Passage, Charriotts Place, Victoria Street, William Street and back to Peascod Street. Cadent’s reference for the job is 33429126, on 0800 074 5788.
The council advertised this one as a proposal on 18 September and made it on 2 October, with the dates unchanged.
Datchet High Street: one night, Monday
The B470 High Street in Datchet is shut between The Green and Windsor Road from 7pm on Monday 5 October to 2am on Tuesday for carriageway patching. Traffic goes round via the B376 The Green, Queens Road and the B470 Windsor Road. Datchet is about two miles east of Windsor.
Windsor, Eton and Old Windsor: lights and footway jobs, no full closures
The council’s list for the town has no road closures this week. It does have several jobs that narrow a road or a pavement:
- St Johns Road, Clewer East: footway resurfacing finishes on Monday 5 October, after four weeks.
- Oakley Green Road, on the Bray boundary: carriageway works under multi-way lights, Monday.
- Stroud Close: footway works, Monday 5 to Wednesday 7 October.
- Dedworth Road: footway and carriageway works, Tuesday 6 October.
- Parsonage Lane: carriageway works, Wednesday 7 October.
- Castle Hill, Thames Street and St Albans Street: footway works, all on Friday 9 October. These are the pavements around the castle walls, so expect narrowed footways on the busiest visitor route in town.
- Osborne Road: carriageway works under multi-way lights, Friday 9 October.
Maidenhead: two closures and a long list
- Boyn Valley Road is shut between numbers 3 and 9 from 8am Monday to 6pm Friday for a new gas connection.
- Grassy Lane is shut for 30 metres west of College Avenue from 8am to 5pm on Thursday 8 October for carriageway repairs.
- Badger Close in Oldfield is shut 8am to 5pm on Friday 9 October, according to the council’s weekly list.
- Queensway in Furze Platt has footway resurfacing until Friday 16 October.
- Multi-way lights are listed on Woodlands Park Avenue (Wednesday to Friday), Headington Road and York Road (Friday). Oldfield Road has two-way lights on Thursday.
The rest of the Maidenhead list is smaller carriageway, footway and gully jobs on about a dozen streets, including Camperdown, Ray Mill Road East, Court Road and Grenfell Road.
Ascot and the Sunnings: two Sunday closures on Broomhall Lane
The B383 Broomhall Lane in Sunningdale is closed southbound, from Sheridan Grove to the A30 London Road, from 9am to 4pm on Sunday 4 October and again on Sunday 11 October. Right turns onto Broomhall Lane from Eden Place and Cedar Drive are banned at the same times. This is fibre ducting for Openreach, and the council has made the order. The diversion runs via Station Road, Silwood Road, the A329 London Road, the A329 Blacknest Road and the A30.
The council’s Ascot list for the week has three jobs, on Sunning Avenue, Woodby Drive and Buckhurst Road, all on Monday 5 October, the last under multi-way lights.
Cookham: Terry’s Lane reopens after Monday
Terry’s Lane has been shut round the clock for gas mains replacement. The order ends at 23:59 on Monday 5 October.
Coming next: three proposals, not decisions
The council has advertised three more orders and has not made them yet. It says only that it intends to make each one not less than seven days after the notice. Treat these as intentions, not fixtures.
- Holyport Street, Holyport, closed for its entire length, round the clock from 00:01 on Monday 19 October to 23:59 on Friday 6 November, for gas mains replacement by Cadent. The notice says there is no diversion route available. That is nearly three weeks, and it is the longest closure in the borough on the current notices. Holyport is about three miles south of Maidenhead.
- B383 Broomhall Lane, Sunningdale, between Cedar Drive and Station Road, 9.30am to 3.30pm each day from Tuesday 13 to Thursday 15 October, for carriageway repairs.
- Ashley Park, Maidenhead, for 11 metres from Sheephouse Road, 8am to 5pm on Friday 16 October, for carriageway repairs. There is no diversion.
What happened to the late September proposals. The two Ascot orders we could not confirm on 22 September were both made on 23 September: the A329 London Road overnight closure on 24 September and New Mile Road on 29 and 30 September. Both have now run.
Trains: Riverside loses two weekends in a row
South Western Railway’s notices for both weeks say the lines in the Staines area are closed all weekend for maintenance.
- Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October, and Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October: Waterloo to Windsor trains are diverted after Twickenham and terminate at Hounslow.
- Buses run between Hounslow and Windsor via Staines, and between Hounslow and Virginia Water.
- Waterloo to Reading trains are diverted between Clapham Junction and Virginia Water, so they do not call at Staines.
Windsor & Eton Central is not affected on either weekend. GWR’s planned works list has nothing that closes the Slough to Windsor branch this year. If you are going to London on either weekend, Central via Slough and Paddington is the train that runs.
Two more dates are already published:
- Sunday 18 October: the Twickenham area is closed all day. SWR says Waterloo to Windsor trains will be diverted between Barnes and Feltham via Hounslow, with extra stops, so expect a longer journey rather than no train.
- Sundays 18 and 25 October: GWR says only two of the four tracks between Paddington and Reading are available, so trains through Slough and Maidenhead run to an amended timetable.
GWR also lists a closure of London Paddington on the weekend of 28 and 29 November, and work affecting Paddington services from 27 December to 3 January. Our Christmas trains page will carry the detail as the operators publish it.
Windsor train times to London has the normal timetable and the fares.
Motorways: a clear week near Windsor
National Highways’ closure report for Saturday 3 to Thursday 8 October has no closure on the M4 between junctions 5 and 9, nor on the A404(M) or A308(M). The nearest entries are:
- M25 anti-clockwise junction 15 link to the M4 junction 4B, closed from 10.30pm on Sunday 4 October to 5.30am on Monday for barrier repairs.
- M4 junction 4B links to the M25 clockwise junction 15, closed from 10pm on Thursday 8 October to 5.30am on Friday for safety fence repairs.
- M4 westbound junction 10 entry slip from the A329(M) southbound, near Wokingham, closed from 9pm to 6am on the nights of Monday 5, Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October for surveys.
The rest of the M4 entries this week are in Wiltshire and South Wales.
Race days and events that move traffic
- Saturday 3 October: an autumn raceday at Ascot, and the Neverland drone light show at Royal Windsor Racecourse on Maidenhead Road.
- Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October: Oktoberfest at Royal Windsor Racecourse, with two sessions on the Saturday.
- Saturday 17 October: British Champions Day at Ascot, the biggest raceday of the autumn. Expect the A329 and A332 to be busy all afternoon.
On Windsor’s race and event days the A308 Maidenhead Road backs up first.
What it means for you
- Shopping on Peascod Street from Monday 5 to Friday 9 October: the first 20 metres of Peascod Place is closed on foot. Use Sun Passage or William Street.
- Getting a train to London this weekend or next: go from Central, not Riverside. Riverside’s replacement buses run via Staines to Hounslow.
- Driving through Datchet on Monday night: the High Street is shut from 7pm to 2am. Use The Green and Queens Road.
- Living in Holyport: Holyport Street is proposed to close for nearly three weeks from 19 October, with no diversion. Watch for the council making the order.
- Driving to Sunningdale on Sunday 4 or 11 October: Broomhall Lane southbound is shut from 9am to 4pm.
- Walking round the castle on Friday 9 October: footway works on Castle Hill, Thames Street and St Albans Street.
- Living on Boyn Valley Road in Maidenhead: it is shut between numbers 3 and 9 all week.
Where the roadworks lists live
The Royal Borough publishes its own works weekly, split five ways, at rbwm.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/roads-and-pavements/council-works-highway-week. The five areas are Windsor, Eton and Old Windsor; Maidenhead; Maidenhead Rural; Ascot and the Sunnings; and Datchet, Horton and Wraysbury. Everything on it is weather dependent and the council warns dates move.
That list covers council work only. Utility closures are advertised separately as statutory traffic orders, one notice per road, which is where the made and proposed orders above come from. For emergency works and anything that appeared overnight, the borough points at one.network, the live national map. The council’s own major utility works page still carries no listings of its own.
Car park charges, Windsor
Charges in Windsor apply Monday to Sunday, 9am to 9pm, including bank holidays. There is no free Sunday here, unlike Maidenhead.

River Street is the expensive one and it is not close. At £7 for the first hour it costs three times Alexandra Gardens for a quick errand, and £30 for over five hours against £19. It sits directly below the castle by the bridge, which is exactly why. If you are visiting the castle and will walk five more minutes, Alexandra Gardens on Alma Road saves £11 on a day out. River Street’s tariff is dated 1 April 2026 on the council’s own page.
Victoria Street is a multi-storey with a 1.8 metre height restriction, which rules out most roof boxes and vans. Note the evening rule: entry is restricted on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 9pm to Windsor on-street permit holders only.
Car park charges, Maidenhead
Maidenhead runs on a different rule: charges apply Monday to Saturday, 9am to 9pm, and Sundays and bank holidays are free.

Vicus Way is the cheapest long stay in the borough at £7 for anything over three hours, and it is a five minute walk from Maidenhead station. It has 503 spaces over ten levels, a 2.1 metre height limit, 29 disabled bays of which 8 are electric vehicle bays, and it is RingGo only, location code 37592. Vehicle entry is limited to 5am to 8pm, though you can walk in and drive out at any hour.
It also runs a deliberate weekend offer: arrive after 4pm on Friday and you can stay until 11am on Monday for £10, aimed at people leaving the car outside the London ULEZ and taking the train in.
Hines Meadow on St Cloud Way is the borough’s biggest at 1,280 spaces, entered from the A4 only, with 34 disabled bays. Several levels are reserved for season ticket holders and marked with red lines, particularly the lower ground floor and levels 4 and 6. Check the pillar signs before you leave the car.
Two Maidenhead car parks people still drive to have gone. Stafferton Way closed to all users on 19 January 2026, with its 476 spaces lost and season ticket holders moved to Vicus Way, Braywick Park or Hines Meadow. Nicholsons is no longer a council car park.
The discounts most people miss
Residents get the first hour free. If you register for the RingGo residents’ discount scheme, the first hour is free at Alexandra Gardens (RingGo code 62401), Victoria Street (62405) and Hines Meadow (62404), among others. It has to be set up before you park, at RingGo.co.uk, and you pay through the resident line on 01753 360 000 rather than the general one on 01753 981 000.
Zone E permit holders can park free in Windsor Dials on Saturdays and Sundays, 9am to 6pm, and free in all council car parks except River Street, every day between 6pm and 9am.
Blue badge holders park free in any bay in council car parks, not only the marked disabled bays, as long as the badge is displayed. Alexandra Gardens has 8 designated bays, Victoria Street 4, River Street 6, Vicus Way 29 and Hines Meadow 34.
Motorcycle bays are free in the council car parks that have them. River Street has 8.

Driving in and out
For Windsor town centre, the council’s own directions are M4 junction 6 for Slough, then follow the signs, or M3 junction 3 if you are coming from the south and west. Both funnel onto the A332 and then into a town centre that has the castle wall on one side of Thames Street and the river on the other, which is the constraint nothing fixes.
The nearest car parks to the castle and the Guildhall are Victoria Street SL4 1EG, King Edward Court SL4 1TG, River Street SL4 1QT and Romney Lock Road SL4 6HX. Blue badge parking is six spaces at the top of Thames Street.
On a busy Saturday, or any day the racecourse or Legoland is running, the train is usually quicker than the queue on the A308. On the weekends of 3 and 4 and 10 and 11 October, use Windsor & Eton Central, because Riverside has no London trains.
